What is a veneer?
A veneer is a thin, shell like cover for teeth composed of
porcelain, composite resin, or ceramic. A veneer can be bonded to the surface
of a tooth to improve its shape, color, or size to improve the appearance of
the tooth. A tooth covered by a veneer can be treated like a natural tooth with
careful brushing, flossing, and maintenance. A dentist in Fremont can improve
the appearance of a chipped, or discolored tooth with a veneer. A patient could
receive either one or several veneers as per the requirement of teeth that need
aesthetic enhancement. While veneer
procedures are carried out by cosmetic dentists, general dentists also have the
experience and skill to offer the technique.
What is the process of obtaining a veneer?
About three visits to the dentist are required to complete an
average veneering procedure. During the first visit, a consultation and
assessment would take place. During the second visit, the dentist would prepare
the tooth for the veneer by removing a layer of enamel from the tooth and then obtaining
an impression to be sent to the laboratory along with color specifications for
the veneer (to match the natural tooth colors of the patient). Generally, the
final stage would be when the customized veneer would be tried on for comfort,
look (if the color matches) and fit. If required, further adjustments would be
made. If satisfied with the overall appearance, the dentist would then bond the
veneer onto the tooth using a recommended dental adhesive.
What is the cost for a veneer procedure?
The cost of a veneer procedure would be determined primarily
by the location of the dentist's office and the material. Therefore, the cost
could range anywhere between $500 to $1200 per veneer.
